Caring For Carers

Mental Health Project

The project aims to support carers who are caring for someone with a mental health problem.

Because of the nature of some mental health conditions, issues of insight, confidentiality and stigma, it can be increasingly difficult for carers to receive a good level of service and support from mental health services.

The following services are currently provided by the Mental Health Project :-

  • Support, information and advice work for carers who are in contact with mental health services
  • Support, information and advice work for those carers who are trying to get initial help for someone who is unwell
  • Advocacy work to support carers to get their voices heard
  • Monthly carer support groups (a morning group and an early evening group for working carers)
  • Training and information sessions for carers
  • Involving carers in feedback and consultation to ensure new services support the needs and roles of carers
  • Representing carer views in the development of services
  • Trips and activities for carers
